Biloxi garbage, recycling and yard trash are picked up once a week on the same day, Thursday or Friday. Missed pickup: 228-701-9086.
Last checked Oct. 12, 2026. Facts on this page come from the Harrison County Utility Authority’s solid waste page and recycling page, and from the City of Biloxi.
The City of Biloxi does not run its own garbage trucks. Residential garbage, recycling and trash pickup in Biloxi is a contracted service managed by the Harrison County Utility Authority (HCUA), which also serves D’Iberville, Long Beach, Pass Christian and unincorporated Harrison County. Two contractors do the work:
- Waste Management: household garbage and recycling.
- Pelican Waste: yard trash, limbs, debris and bulky items such as furniture.
Biloxi residents pay for the service through the monthly city utility bill, the authority says.

What day is my pickup?
Garbage, recycling and yard trash are all collected on the same day each week. The city’s 2021 trash guide (PDF) says pickup is on Thursday in the northern areas of the city and on Friday in the rest of Biloxi. To confirm the day for your address, enter it in Waste Management’s pickup schedule tool or call 228-701-9086.
The authority’s rules for carts:
- Garbage goes in the 96-gallon brown HCUA cart; recycling goes in the 35-gallon green cart. Bag your household garbage.
- Put carts at the curb by 6 a.m. on your service day, handle facing the house.
- Keep carts at least 5 feet from cars, shrubs, fire hydrants and mailboxes. Do not block the sidewalk or the driveway, and do not put carts in the street.
- Garbage or recycling left outside the carts is not picked up.
- A second garbage cart costs $5.25 a month, billed once a year at $63 by Waste Management. Call 228-701-9086 and press 1.
Recycling
According to the authority’s recycling page, these go loose in the green cart, not in bags:
- Aluminum cans
- Plastic bottles, jugs and containers marked No. 1 to No. 3, and garden plastics
- Glass
- Newspapers, magazines and other paper
- Flattened cardboard boxes and clean pizza boxes
Rinse cans, bottles and jars first. Labels can stay on.
Keep these out of the recycling cart: plastic bags, foam or Styrofoam, wire hangers, windows, mirrors, ceramic or Pyrex dishes, food waste, electronics, paint, pesticides, cleaners, waxed cardboard, needles or syringes, scrap metal and hazardous waste.
Holiday schedule
Pickup is delayed only for some holidays. The authority posts each change on its news page.
| Holiday | What HCUA did |
|---|---|

Yard trash, bulk items and appliances
Pelican Waste picks up yard trash and bulky items on your regular service day. Put them at the curb, 3 to 5 feet from the street, and not under power lines or tree limbs or next to mailboxes, fire hydrants or gas and electric meters, the city’s trash guide says.
- Leaves, grass, pine straw and insulation: must be bagged.
- Limbs: cut to 8 feet or shorter. Stumps and large logs are not picked up.
- Furniture and appliances: accepted. Refrigerators and freezers need the doors removed and a tag showing a licensed contractor removed the Freon.
- Not picked up: construction debris, limbs left by a tree or lawn service, concrete, asphalt, dirt, tires, batteries, crawfish or shrimp hulls and hazardous waste. Contractors must haul away their own waste.
- Trash set out in front of an empty lot is not collected.
Household hazardous waste
The Rocko-McFarland Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Recycling Center (PDF), 10076 Lorraine Road in Gulfport, is open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month, and by appointment on weekdays at 228-896-0206. It takes:
- Latex and oil-based paint, used cooking and motor oil, antifreeze
- Household, marine and car batteries, aerosol cans and gasoline
- Refrigerators, freezers and fluorescent bulbs
- Electronics such as computers, cellphones and TVs
- Tires off the rim: five per visit and 25 per household a year
It does not take containers larger than 5 gallons, herbicides, pesticides, asbestos, roofing, explosives, medicines, construction debris, furniture or business waste. Keep items unbagged and labeled, in the trunk or truck bed.
Christmas trees and cardboard
The authority holds Christmas tree and cardboard recycling events after the holidays. In 2025, Biloxi’s cardboard drop-off was from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 27, at Edgewater Mall, 2600 Beach Blvd., the city said.
