Enrollment and teachers
The most recent federal count, from the NCES directory, is 536 students in 2023-24, with 45 full-time-equivalent teachers, about 11.9 students per teacher. The state’s 2025-26 report card counts 38 full-time-equivalent teachers; it does not show a newer enrollment figure.
State report card
Back Bay earned an A for 2025-26, with 505 of 700 possible points, in the Mississippi Department of Education’s results file, released Oct. 15, 2026. A school needed 402 points for a B and 457 for an A this year, according to the state’s guide to the system (PDF). The school also earned an A on the 2024-25 report card.
From the school’s 2025-26 report card:
| Measure | Back Bay, 2025-26 |
|---|---|
| English proficiency | 60.1% |
| Math proficiency | 67.3% |
| English growth, all students | 75.3% |
| Math growth, all students | 71.6% |
| English growth, lowest-performing 25% | 82.9% |
| Chronically absent students | 23.4% |
Mississippi grades every school and district from A to F. State tests start in third grade, so the proficiency figures come from Back Bay’s third and fourth graders. The state’s guide (PDF) says the grade counts proficiency and growth in English and math, with extra weight on the lowest-performing 25% of students, and English learners’ progress. Because the writing part of the English test was field tested in 2026, the state used the higher of the 2025-26 or 2024-25 English results, and it says 2025-26 grades set a new baseline that “cannot be compared” to earlier years.
Attendance zone
On the district’s attendance zones map (PDF), linked from its zones page and last revised July 18, 2011, Back Bay’s zone appears under the old Jeff Davis Elementary name. It covers the middle of the peninsula, including Keesler Air Force Base, from about Jim Money Road and Brady Drive on the west to about White Avenue and Keesler’s east side. The Popp’s Ferry zone is to the west and the Gorenflo zone to the east.
After fourth grade, Back Bay students go to Biloxi Upper Elementary, then Biloxi Junior High and Biloxi High. The map is old and boundary streets matter, so confirm an address with Student Services at 228-374-1810, ext. 1125.
